Major policies of the Kishida Cabinet 04/

People feeling safe and well-assured in their daily lives

Our mission is to protect the lives and assets of our citizens from weather disasters such as torrential rains that have become increasingly intense and frequent in recent years, imminent large-scale earthquakes, aging infrastructure, and other such risks and reduce to the greatest possible extent the number of people impacted by disasters. We will continually and steadily work to prevent and reduce disasters and enhance national resilience over the medium to long term.
Also, without the reconstruction of the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, there can be no revival of Japan. With this strong conviction, we will continue to do everything in our power while staying attuned to the voices of the people in the communities affected.
Moreover, we will make our utmost efforts to ensure that our citizens can lead prosperous lives while enjoying peace of mind, including by the Government preparing for infectious disease disasters and ensuring good public safety.

Accelerating recovery and reconstruction from natural disasters

Without the reconstruction of Tohoku, there will be no revival of Japan. We will continue to make our utmost efforts towards reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake while staying attentive to the voices of local residents.

Without the reconstruction of Tohoku, there will be no revival of Japan. We will continue to make every possible effort towards reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake while considering local residents’ views and sensitivities. In Fukushima, which is working towards reconstruction from the nuclear disaster, we are moving forward in a safe and steady manner in decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station of Tokyo Electric Power Company and in rehabilitating the environment. We are also taking every precaution in our responses so as to keep in check to the greatest possible degree unfounded rumors resulting from the discharge of ALPS-treated water into the ocean.
Also, regarding the difficult-to-return-to zones with evacuation orders still in effect, evacuation orders were lifted in the Specified Reconstruction and Revitalization Bases in the village of Katsurao and the towns of Okuma and Futaba in 2022, and in the Specified Reconstruction and Revitalization Bases in the towns of Namie and Tomioka and the village of Iitate in 2023. We will push forward with necessary measures so that residents intending to return are able to do so, even an areas outside of these Specified Bases.
In addition, we will work to advance the efforts of the Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI), established in April 2023, which aims to become a world-class “center of excellence for creative restoration” that will serve as a dream and hope for realizing the reconstruction of Fukushima and the other parts of the Tohoku region. F-REI will also aim to raise Japan’s industrial competitiveness to the highest level in the world and contribute to economic growth as well as the improvement of people’s lives.
