One of the most improved aspects of the
Kantei may be its meeting facilities. Compared with the former
Kantei, the number of meeting rooms in the new Kantei
is considerably increased.
The Large Meeting Room on the fourth floor is the meeting room that
is used most often in the Kantei, for multiple purposes. The
special feature of this room is its ability to host audio-visual presentations,
by virtue of the large projector screens that are mounted on the front
wall.
At the Disaster Prevention Day Drills that took place for the first
time in the new Kantei in September 2002, the large projector
screens were used in a meeting of relevant Cabinet ministers and a
meeting of the Headquarters for Emergency Disaster Control.
The walls are covered in light-colored laminated Japanese horse chestnut
wood, and a light gray carpet is laid. One wall is entirely comprised
of windows, lending an open feel to the room.
To the side of the entrance of the room is a wall made up of unglazed
tiles. It is here that the Prime Minister is often interviewed by
the journalists, and many people may have seen this place on television.
