The space in the Kantei is shaped
in accordance with the traditional Japanese architectural concept
of "organic link between inner and outer space." This concept is perhaps
best symbolized by the Inner Court.
The Inner Court is a simple creation of Moso bamboo and natural-quarried
granite (Aji stone). Like the Grand Hall, the Inner Court is
situated on the second floor, and extends all the way to the retractable
rooftop. When the rooftop is opened, the Inner Court offers a view
of the blue sky or the starry heavens.
In rainy days, raindrops fall on the fresh, verdant bamboo and the
rough surface of the quarried rocks.
The 380 square meter space hosts a bamboo grove and elongated Aji
stones. Some of the stones are more than five meters in length. The
bamboo trees are well over ten meters high and their tips reach to
the height of the fifth floor.
The traditional Japanese beauty of the Inner Court can be enjoyed
from various vantage points in the new Kantei, including the
Main Entrance, the Foyer, and the Grand Hall. |
