Through the Ministerial Reception Room
is the Cabinet Room. The Cabinet Room is larger than that of the former
Kantei, and the Cabinet table, which is the main feature of
the room, has also been changed from an oval table to a perfectly
round one. The entire room is designed to harmonize with the table.
For example, there is a high ceiling, which rises from the four walls
toward the center, and in the center is a well which accommodates
the light. The carpet is of the same wave design as the Ministerial
Reception Room, but its waves spread out in circles from the Cabinet
table.
The Cabinet table in the center of the room is 5.2 meters in diameter
and is made of a hard yet easily workable laminated wood, known as
Japanese birch. The doors and walls are made of the same wood and
this creates a feeling of unity in the entire room.
The walls are made of diatomaceous earth, and directly facing the
Prime Minister's seat is a window that affords views of a spot garden
of natural stones. These natural materials of wood, clay and stone
create a very calm and elegant feeling, creating a solemn atmosphere
befitting of a room in which the most important decisions of state
are made. |
