Prime Minister Visits the United States and the Middle East (the State of Qatar)

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe left Kuwait and arrived at Doha, the State of Qatar, the next country on the tour of the Middle East.
After a welcome ceremony at Doha International Airport, Prime Minister Abe held talks with His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, which were followed by a meeting with His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, at the Emiri Diwan. At the meetings, the two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing not only on the trade of oil and natural gas but on a wide range of areas, including the economy and education. Prime Minister Abe announced that Japan would form closer partnerships for the stabilization of the Middle East region. The Press Statement between Qatar and Japan that was announced after the meetings noted the decision of the two sides to launch informal talks to start bilateral investment agreement negotiations. It also expressed support for Japan's permanent membership on the United Nations (UN) Security Council. Following the meetings, Prime Minister Abe delivered an address at the meeting of the economic mission. On the morning of May 2, the following day, Prime Minister Abe left Doha International Airport for the Arab Republic of Egypt.
