Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the first country on the tour of the Middle East.

At Riyadh Air Base, Prime Minister Abe was received by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and jointly attended a welcome ceremony. The Prime Minister then moved to the Crown Prince's Palace to attend a luncheon hosted by the Crown Prince.

In the evening, Prime Minister Abe participated in the Japan-Saudi Arabia Business Forum and delivered an address to the audience. Afterwards, he talked with Japanese people living in the country.

Prime Minister Abe then attended a dinner hosted by His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, which was followed by a meeting between the two leaders. During the meeting Prime Minister Abe said, "I would like to make further efforts to build a multilayered relationship." King Abdullah responded, saying "Saudi Arabia places great importance on the relationship with Japan. The further enhancement of our bilateral ties is significant not only for our countries, but also for the entire Asian and the Middle Eastern regions." The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen economic relations, including those related to energy, and also looked into the situation of the Middle East as well as other aspects of the international situation.

On the morning of April 29, the following day, Prime Minister Abe left for Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the next country to be visited on the tour.
