Prime Minister Visits the United States and the Middle East

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the State of Kuwait, the third country on the tour of the Middle East.
Upon arrival in the capital city, Kuwait, Prime Minister Abe received a welcome ceremony at the airport. Afterwards he held talks with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, at his private residence in a suburb of Kuwait. Later, at the Bayan Palace, Prime Minister Abe also held a meeting with His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammed Al Ashmed Al Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait. At the meetings, Prime Minister Abe expressed his appreciation for the cooperation extended by Kuwait to Japan's Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) units in their airlift support missions. The two sides agreed to continue their cooperation and coordination in the areas of energy and environmental preservation, as well as toward an early consensus to conclude a free trade agreement (FTA) between Japan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). After the meetings, Prime Minister Abe attended an expanded meeting in which the mission from the economic circle joined. In the evening Prime Minister Abe attended a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Nasser. On the following day of May 1, Prime Minister Abe visited the Ali Al Salem Air Base, where he offered encouragement to ASDF units engaged in airlift support missions based in Kuwait under the Law Concerning the Special Measures on Humanitarian and Reconstruction Assistance in Iraq. Afterwards, Prime Minister Abe left for Doha, the State of Qatar, the next country to be visited on the tour.
