On July 11 (local time), during his visit to Port Moresby in the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe first attended the inauguration meeting of the Joint Committee on Japan-Papua New Guinea Investment.
Next, the Prime Minister traveled to Wewak where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence at the New Guinea Monument to the War Dead. Afterwards, the Prime Minister attended a luncheon meeting organized by the Governor of East Sepik Province H.E. Sir Michael Somare, former Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea.   
During the afternoon, the Prime Minister took part in an unveiling ceremony of the monuments to the war dead and conversed with Mr. Shizuka Kawabata, who is involved locally in the recovery of the remains of the war dead, and maintenance and management of monuments to the war dead.
