Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 24th meeting of the Education Rebuilding Implementation Council at the Prime Minister's Office.

After receiving the fifth proposal of the Education Rebuilding Implementation Council, the Prime Minister said in his address,

"I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Council for compiling the fifth proposal at this time.
The recommendations in this proposal include realizing tuition-free early childhood education and compulsory education from the age of five, the establishment of an integrated education system for elementary and junior high school students, and creating a new higher education institution for practical vocational education. Such measures will fundamentally transform the Japanese educational system which has remained the same for around 70 years since the end of World War II.
I believe the Council has presented a vision for important reforms to realize high quality education that adapts to the faster development of children and to the changes in society and the economy.
Under the leadership of Minister Shimomura, I would like you to begin examining these recommendations in detail.
This Council is the driver of the Abe Cabinet’s education rebuilding, and I would like to ask you to continue to follow up on the recommendations you have made to date and hold discussions on additional issues, while taking into account the future of Japan. Thank you."
