On May 1 (local time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the United Kingdom. First Prime Minister Abe had an audience with HRH Anne, the Princess Royal of the United Kingdom, at Buckingham Palace. He then participated in the Invest in Japan seminar. Afterwards, the Prime Minister visited the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey where he offered flowers.
In the afternoon, Prime Minister Abe held talks with Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The Prime Minister then attended the Japan-UK Conference “Collaboration in Research and Education” before inspecting a monument to the Choshu Five, five members of the Choshu clan from Japan who studied in the United Kingdom and were the founding fathers of Japan’s modernization. Afterwards Prime Minister Abe attended an event on Japan-UK nuclear cooperation.
In the evening, the Prime Minister delivered a speech at a welcoming dinner hosted by the City of London at Guildhall.
On the second day of his visit, Prime Minister Abe first took a test ride on a Hitachi Javelin train, before visiting the Olympic Park. Prime Minister Abe then visited Twickenham Rugby Stadium.
