First Day of the Prime Minister's Visit to Myanmar

On May 25 (local time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is visiting Yangon in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, laid a wreath at the Martyrs' Mausoleum where the purported founding father of the nation General Aung San and others are commemorated. Following this, he paid his respects at Yeway Japanese Cemetery where Japanese war dead are entombed. Afterwards, the Prime Minister visited Lat Yat San Friends Elementary School and then observed the planned site of the Thilawa Special Economic Zone.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister delivered a speech at a business seminar and then received a courtesy call from Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy.
In the evening, the Prime Minister attended a reception for the economic mission.
