The Small Dining Room was where the Prime Minister
usually ate lunch. The Kantei kitchen catered meals in the Large Dining
Room and the Small Dining Room. The lunch menu emphasized the Prime Minister's
taste in food, and when a new Prime Minister took office, he was asked what his
favorites were and the menu was created accordingly.
As was the same with the Large Dining Room, the Small Dining Room was not only
a place for meals. The rooms also served as a venue for summit meetings with other
countries and meetings of the Security Council, as well as party leaders' meetings.
A look at the history of the room revealed that in 1978 it was used along with
the adjoining Smoking Room as a Countermeasure Headquarters for handling the hijacking
incident of the Japanese Red Army in Dhaka. Since 1996, the room was no longer
used in this way for other incidents, accidents or disasters due to the establishment
of the Crisis Management Center in the Annex to the Prime Minister's Official
Residence. |
