Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, on November 6 for about 30 minutes from 11:30 a.m. (local time) at the National Convention Center in Vientiane. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, both leaders welcomed the inauguration of direct flights between New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido and Bangkok at the end of October, and Prime Minister Noda presented commemorative gifts to Prime Minister Yingluck to mark the occasion.
   
   
2. The two leaders shared the recognition that both countries would further develop their strategic partnership as states sharing fundamental values such as democracy and economic interests and that both sides would promote their cooperative economic relations taking advantage of such frameworks as those under the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement. The two leaders also concurred on the importance of following up on their summit meeting held in March this year.
   
   
3. Prime Minister Noda expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Thai side during the visit to Thailand by His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito.
   
   
4. The two leaders shared the view that it was important for both countries to further develop their cooperative relationship in regard to the development of infrastructure in Thailand.
   
   
5. As for Myanmar, the two leaders exchanged views concerning the development of the Dawei economic zone and concurred on the importance of extending support to the country's ethnic minorities in the border area.
   
   
6. Both leaders exchanged views, among other issues, on the situation in East Asia, including North Korea and the South China Sea, and they shared the recognition that the two countries would continue cooperating with each other on these issues.
   
   
7. Prime Minister Noda explained Japan's position concerning relations with China, saying the relationship between the two countries was one of the most important bilateral relationships for Japan, that in the present situation involving the two countries, Japan had consistently acted calmly from the beginning and that, as a responsible nation in the Asia-Pacific region, it would continue contributing to regional peace and prosperity.
