On September 26, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held an informal talk with Mr. Vuk Jeremić, President of the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly for about 20 minutes from 11 a.m. (local time). An overview of the meeting is as follows:

1. President Jeremić welcomed Prime Minister Noda's visit to the UN, and said he wants to cooperate with Japan on the challenges facing the UN. Prime Minister Noda expressed his support for the theme of the current UN General Assembly session, "Adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations by peaceful means", along with saying that Japan consistently emphasizes "the rule of law" and the peaceful resolution of international disputes. Prime Minister Noda also asked for President Jeremić's support toward the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Reduction, which Japan aims to host in 2015.
   
   
2. President Jeremić said that he will support Japan's hosting of the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Reduction. Furthermore, with regard to the relationship between the UN General Assembly and the G20 and other frameworks, he said he is considering opening discussions among member countries and holding a high level meeting next year, and that he hopes to obtain the support of Japan.
   
   
3. In response, Prime Minister Noda said that he shares awareness of the issue of the division of roles between the UN and the G20 and other frameworks, and that where Security Council reform is concerned, Japan intends to be flexible and will discuss the matter broadly with other countries, and search for an achievable reform proposal. He expressed expectations toward President Jeremić's leadership. President Jeremić said he wants to remain in close contact with Japan.
   
   
4. Prime Minister Noda explained Japan's position in regard to current Japan-China relations, and President Jeremić said that international law is vital to ensuring global stability and security, and that he supports all efforts that are based on international law.
