On Wednesday, August 29, Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, the Prime Minister, received a courtesy call from H.E. Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, who was visiting Japan upon invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for approximately 25 minutes from 11:00 a.m. An overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. Prime Minister Noda heartily welcomed the visit to Japan by Coordinating Minister Djoko Suyanto, stated that the "strategic partnership" between Japan and Indonesia is crucial for the stability and prosperity of the region, and expressed his expectation that the visit to Japan by Coordinating Minister Djoko Suyanto would lead to the further strengthening of the "strategic partnership" between the two countries. In response, Minister Djoko Suyanto expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and his appreciation for Japan's past cooperation, such as the Bali Democracy Forum and its support in the wake of natural disasters in Indonesia.

  2. Regarding regional cooperation, Prime Minister Noda expressed his appreciation for the role of Indonesia as the chair country of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) last year. Moreover, Prime Minister Noda and Coordinating Minister Djoko Suyanto also exchanged opinions concerning regional situations, expressed appreciation for the Japan-Indonesia summit meeting held on the occasion of the G20 Summit in Los Cabos in last June, and shared views that it is important to deal with regional and international issues through cooperation between the two countries.

  3. Furthermore, Prime Minister Noda and Coordinating Minister Djoko Suyanto shared views to further strengthen the bilateral relations by promoting specific cooperation in various fields, including the fields of politics and security, through measures such as supporting democratization, cooperating in disaster response, and participating in peacekeeping operation (PKO) activities.
