I am deeply saddened to learn of the tremendous damages left in Turkey and its people as a result of the earthquake in the province of Van, eastern Turkey on October 23. On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I express my sincere condolences as well as my heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families. I sincerely pray for the prompt recovery of the affected people and for the swift reconstruction of the afflicted area.

Japan will never forget the assistance and contribution extended by Turkey in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake. As already conveyed, the Government of Japan stands ready to help in any way it can in response to the challenges facing the country. Please let us know if Turkey requires any assistance.
