The Prime Minister Receives a Courtesy Call from Representatives of the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP)
Wednesday, October 24, 2012
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda received a courtesy call from the representatives of the youths participating in the 39th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP).
The SSEAYP is a joint program inaugurated in 1974 by Japan and the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This year marks the 39th voyage.
After shaking hands with each of the representatives of the youths participating in the SSEAYP and giving words of encouragement to them, the Prime Minister said in his address,
"Japan and ASEAN countries are indispensible friends with one another. Next year will be the 40th anniversary of exchange between Japan and ASEAN countries. Based on this history, we wish for people to continuously come and go among the countries, and that cultural and economic exchanges will also develop in depth for a long time.
I believe that this precious opportunity will offer you an occasion to have contact with various societies and cultures in Asia, and to deepen friendship and understanding among each other. I strongly believe that based on this experience, you will build a bridge of friendship between Japan and ASEAN countries, and stand at the forefront of activities connecting the regions in the future."
