Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the 9th meeting of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy at the Diet building.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "For Japan, which is a marine nation surrounded entirely by the sea, it is important to carry forward the development and use of marine resources and the maintenance of marine researches.
The policy for initiatives to promote the use of maritime renewable energy decided today, including wind-power-generation on the sea, should be the basis for constructing a new society in terms of energy. It is important that all ministries cooperate closely on this occasion, and to further strengthen efforts in the future.
I also believe that the extension of the continental shelf of Japan approved last month is an important achievement toward the development and use of marine resources in the future.
In order to explore the potentiality of the ocean, which is a new frontier for mankind, I would like to ask for your further efforts."
