Okinawa Policy Council
Friday, May 11, 2012
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended a meeting of the Okinawa Policy Council held at the Prime Minister's Office.
Discussion took place on the basic policy for the promotion of Okinawa.
The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "The amended Act on Special Measures for the Promotion and Development of Okinawa and the Act on Special Measures for the Promotion of Dezoning and Reutilization of Military Land in Okinawa passed unanimously at the end of this March. Thus, the promotion of Okinawa made a new start this April.
The basic policy for the promotion of Okinawa reported today sets forth the basic policy of Okinawa's promotion that should be implemented under the responsibility of the national government during the next ten years. I have heard that Okinawa Prefecture is preparing for the formulation of the promotion plan of Okinawa, which sets forth measures and projects in further detail, based on this policy. From now on, the national and prefectural governments will cooperate hand-in-hand in promoting Okinawa earnestly, based on the basic policy and the promotion plan, so as to actualize the potential of Okinawa, which is one of the frontiers of Japan."
