The Prime Minister Receives a Courtesy Call from the Representatives of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Who Received the Fuji Award
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda received a courtesy call at the Prime Minister's Office from representatives of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who received the "Fuji Award."
The "Fuji Award" is an honorary badge awarded to the scouts, boys and girls of high-school age or under the age of 20 who worked the hardest to realize their own goals and worked for the benefit of others within the scout movement.
The Prime Minister gave words of encouragement to the 43 scout representatives who received the "Fuji Award," saying, "I understand that the 'Fuji Award' is a very honorable award. I believe it is your daily dedication to your studies that has earned you the award.
The last one year has been one in which a variety of painful events took place, including the Great East Japan Earthquake, heavy snowfall, and heavy rains. I believe there are scouts gathered here today who also, in the wake of the great earthquake disaster, actively went to and carried out volunteer activities in the disaster-hit areas, made every effort to collect donations, and were playmates for children in the affected areas. I would like to once again express my heartfelt appreciation for all of your support.
I hope you will demonstrate to the full extent the leadership skills, spirit of service, and cooperation that were fostered through your Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities for the revitalization of Japan and for the advancement of the international community."
Afterwards, a Boy Scout on behalf of the scouts representing the awardees, expressed his determination for the future, saying, "Through my Boy Scout activities, I have striven to discover the one and only me. In the path to the 'Fuji Award,' I was able to experience the enjoyment of thinking on my own, taking action based on my own initiative, and taking on challenges by myself as well as understand how important the support of family and peers are. I will continue to take on more challenges and improve myself further to discover the one and only me."
Lastly, the scouts representing the awardees presented three cheers of "Iyasaka" (meaning to prosper more and more) for the Prime Minister.
