First Day of the Prime Minister's Visit to India
Tuesday, December 27, 2011
On December 27 (local time), Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda visited India.
After arriving in India, Prime Minister Noda attended an event related to the India-Japan Global Partnership Summit 2013.
Prime Minister Noda said in his address, "Japan and India share universal values. As two major democracies in Asia, we are resolved to strengthen cooperation in a broad range of fields including politics, security, and economy.
There is still much room for cooperation on the economic front. The Japan-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) entered into force in August this year. Already over 800 Japanese companies have entered India, and many more Japanese companies are considering India as a promising investment destination. Japan and India share a mutually complementary relationship in terms of economy. While Japan has technologies and financial resources, in India there is a large pool of young labor force and enormous infrastructure demand. There is a large amount of demand even for railways alone. I am scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow, and I intend to have a thorough discussion on such cooperation initiatives as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Project during the meeting.
I have just been presented with a splendid cap, but it did not fit the size of my head, which is rather large as it is filled with dreams for strengthening relations between Japan and India. I am looking forward to share such dreams by holding vigorous talks with political and economic leaders.
We will be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations next year. I intend to make this visit an opportunity to let the people of both Japan and India recognize the importance of our bilateral relations."
