Headquarters for the Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake
Tuesday, November 29, 2011
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the tenth meeting of the Headquarters for the Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake at the Prime Minister's Office.
Discussion took place on the review of the Government's work plan and roadmap for reconstruction measures, among other matters.
The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "At the outset, I would like to express my appreciation for the tireless efforts of the three respective top officials and members of the Cabinet Office and ministries since the Great East Japan Earthquake for the recovery and reconstruction work as well as the liaison and coordination work with the afflicted areas, among other activities.
Nevertheless, criticisms have also been received about lack of promptness and failure of the assistance to properly reach those affected. I believe we must fully take this to heart and accelerate our reconstruction programs moving forward.
The third supplementary budget was passed recently. Relevant legislations, too, have been deliberated and passed successively. Based on these budgets and relevant legislations, the reconstruction measures need to be implemented swiftly.
The afflicted areas will soon be facing the heart of the winter season. Also, I believe that many of the reconstruction plans of the local governments in the afflicted areas will be coming out within the end of the year. I would like to ask everyone gathered here today for your further cooperation to be able to make swift and smooth progress on each and every program."
