Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the opening ceremony of the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) held in Tokyo.

The Prime Minister said in his address, "We have received warm support from many people around the world since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11. In particular, we have received great support from the film industry. The person who took the lead in this was Mr. Jackie Chan. On behalf of the Government of Japan, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to him.
Films leave a lasting memory in people's mind, and the resulting excitement can change a person's life. I believe the significance of having a film festival is in sharing this excitement across the borders. It is my expectation that a whirlpool of excitement will spread from Tokyo through TIFF."
