Committee for the Promotion of the Private Finance Initiative
Friday, September 30, 2011
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the first meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of the Private Finance Initiative at the Prime Minister's Office.
Discussion took place on the significance of establishing the Committee for the Promotion of the Private Finance Initiative, the revised Act on Promotion of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) (PFI Act), and other matters.
The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "How we should utilize funds and know-how of the private sector is an extremely important matter, and in this context we must thoroughly promote the PFI.
The New Growth Strategy approved by the previous Cabinet in June last year states that we will expand the PFI market to about 10 trillion yen by 2020. Additionally, the Basic Policy on Reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, which was approved this July, states that the PFI will be utilized for reconstruction as well. In consideration of these policies I would like to promote the PFI on various levels."
