Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on September 3, 2017.

In regard to the Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk with President Donald Trump (the second occasion), and the Japan-Russia Summit Telephone Talk with President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the Prime Minister said,

“In response to the nuclear test belligerently conducted by North Korea, President Trump and I held a second summit telephone talk today.  I also held a summit telephone talk with President Putin of Russia.

President Putin and I completely shared the recognition of the current situation that the recent outrageous acts by North Korea pose a serious threat. I requested President Putin’s cooperation in the United Nations Security Council and we are planning to hold a summit meeting in Vladivostok this week. We fully agreed that we will continue to work closely together.

With President Trump as well, we agreed that the acts of North Korea cannot be overlooked. We also shared the view that the international community must act with strong resolve and apply stronger pressure than ever before on North Korea. President Trump reaffirmed that the United States and Japan are together 100%. It depends upon the coordination and solidarity of the international community whether we are able to stop these outrageous acts by North Korea that threaten world peace.  We will continue to exert every effort to deepen our cooperation with the international community.”
