Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 22nd meeting in 2015 of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the “Economic and Fiscal Revitalization Action Program” was finalized and discussion was held on “analysis of the economic impact of the TPP,” “economic and fiscal management for FY2016” and “future issues to be considered by the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy.”

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said in his statement,

“Today, we finalized the ‘Economic and Fiscal Revitalization Action Program,’ which sets forth specific processes for comprehensive economic and fiscal reform . I would like to thank everyone involved for your hard work, including private-sector members and other related parties.

I would like the relevant ministers to work together with the government under this program to carry out institutional reform.

In doing so, I ask that ‘visualization,’ a key to this reform, not stop at just the disclosure of information, but also serve as a driving force behind the reform itself.
Estimates have indicated that the TPP will have an extremely large economic effect. We will work to make the TPP a reality.

Measures will be developed according to the ‘comprehensive TPP-related policy framework’ in an effort to realize a truly ‘strong economy.’

I would like Minister Amari to take the lead in further specifying the details of the measures that will be implemented to make Japan a global hub for trade and investment.

Next year will be an important year for implementing initiatives aimed at creating a society in which all one hundred million-plus citizens are each dynamically engaged.

To establish a positive cycle of growth and distribution, I would like the Council to move forward with discussions on approaches to economic and fiscal management and to building a mechanism for achieving growth and distribution. I request that Minister Amari finalize the agenda for future meetings of the Council based on today’s discussions.”
