Headquarters on Creating Dynamism through Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities
November 25, 2015
[Provisional Translation]
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 17th meeting of the Headquarters on Creating Dynamism through Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities at the Prime Minister's Office.
During the meeting, “TPP measures in the agriculture, forestry and fishery fields” were discussed.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,
“Taking into account the proposals of the ruling parties, which were compiled after serious and passionate discussions, today we have been able to decide on ‘TPP measures in the agriculture, forestry and fishery fields.’
As a result, agriculture, forestry and fishery policies have reached a new stage that should be called the ‘new era of agricultural policies.’
I view the TPP as an opportunity to transform the agriculture, forestry and fishery industries into industries on the offensive. To that end, we will intensively implement the necessary measures for transforming these industries into growth industries, such as by improving productivity and strengthening structures, and increasing added value.
In regard to the five key products that have supported Japanese agriculture for many years, we will definitely implement measures to achieve management stability, so that the agricultural workers who produce these items can continue to manage their operations with peace of mind in the future.
Working closely with the ruling parties, and remaining sympathetic to the concerns of people in the agriculture, forestry and fishery industries, the entire government will continue to take responsibility and act to ensure that ambitious agricultural producers can continue their work with peace of mind.
I am resolved that, through the agricultural policies advanced so far by the Abe Cabinet, as well as the new policies we have just decided, we will make the agriculture, forestry and fishery industries fields in which young people aspire to work and can pioneer new horizons with their own passions. Thank you.”
