On September 7 (local time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
After arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport, Prime Minister Abe was first welcomed by H.E. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, and then attended a cornerstone ceremony for phase 2 of the airport improvement project.
Later, the Prime Minister attended a welcome ceremony hosted at the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, held talks with President Rajapaksa, and then held an expanded summit meeting. Afterwards, the leaders held a signing ceremony for a joint statement and a joint press announcement. Furthermore, the Prime Minister visited the Parliament of Sri Lanka, and conversed with representatives of ruling and opposition parties.
Later, the Prime Minister delivered a speech at the Japan-Sri Lanka Business Forum held in a hotel in Colombo.
In the evening, the Prime Minister attended a banquet hosted by President Rajapaksa.
The following day, September 8 (local time), the Prime Minister visited Kelaniya Temple.
