Welcome Banquet Hosted by the Prime Minister for Parliament Members Associated with the Boy Scouts
Wednesday, November 6, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe hosted a banquet at the Prime Minister's Office inviting members of parliament associated with the Boy Scouts from various countries.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"I would like to welcome the distinguished members of the Boy Scouts parliamentary associations from various countries to Japan today.
The Boy Scouts program, in which children work together in the outdoors to learn and develop integrity, courage, and the spirit of service, is a wonderful activity from an educational point of view. Boy Scouts are very active in Japan as well. Including Chairman Aisawa, there are numerous Diet members in Japan who used to be members of the Boy Scouts. Many members of Japan's Parliamentary Association are attending today from different parties. While various obstacles stand in the way of Diet members from different parties coming together, today I believe we have been able to overcome these obstacles.
As was described by Vice-President Shionoya of the World Scout Parliamentary Union moments ago, the World Scout Jamboree will be held in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan two years from now in 2015. The pre-jamboree was held this summer. While there was heavy rainfall before the jamboree was started, all of the Boy Scouts remained very calm, composed, and orderly. I believe this too was indeed the result of their daily activities. I hope everyone here today will also lend us their cooperation for the success of the World Jamboree two years from now and will be in attendance. It would be a great pleasure if I were able to welcome you all as Prime Minister."
