Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding
Thursday, June 6, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the ninth meeting of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister's Office.
During the meeting, discussion took place on the future of connections among high schools and universities and university entrance examinations.
The Prime Minister said in his opening address,
"On May 28, I received the third proposal of this council from Chair Kamata. I would like to extend my profound gratitude for the efforts of everyone on the council to compile the proposal.
I want to thoroughly reflect the proposal in the Growth Strategy to be established from now on.
From today, I would like everyone to discuss the future of the connections among high schools and universities, including university entrance examinations.
I believe that in order to aim for the world's top level academic abilities, one of the goals of the rebuilding of education, and in order to create world-ranking universities, as outlined in the third proposal, the future of the connections among high schools and universities is extremely important.
Above all, the future of university entrance examinations has a great impact on university education as well as primary and secondary school education, and is a theme in which the public has an extremely high interest.
Put another way, I believe that the state of having no choice but to focus excessive energy toward university entrance examinations is a problem of education in Japan.
I hope that everyone will have a discussion from a wide perspective for the purpose of drawing out the full potential of children and endowing them with the skills required in the current era."
