Japan-Africa Summit Meeting on United Nations Security Council Reform during TICAD V
Monday, June 3, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the Japan-Africa Summit Meeting on United Nations Security Council Reform during the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) being held in Yokohama.
The Prime Minister said in his opening address,
"Over these past two days, we have been able to have a significant exchange of opinions on initiatives related to development, peace and stability in Africa.
This morning, I would like to talk about one more important and common issue for both Japan and the countries of Africa; the reform of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
UN Security Council Reform is a big issue that remains for the reform of global governance. This is the first ever summit meeting to be held in this format on the reform of the UN Security Council, and I hope to use this opportunity to further strengthen Japan-Africa cooperation on this issue."
