Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"This year is the 40th year of Japan-ASEAN friendship and cooperation, and I am pleased to be able to welcome the Chair of ASEAN, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan. I look forward to holding meaningful talks today.
I will offer my cooperation for the successful convening of all meetings related to ASEAN for which Brunei Darussalam is currently serving as the Chair."
