Advisory Council on the Establishment of a National Security Council
Thursday, May 9, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the fifth Advisory Council on the Establishment of a National Security Council at the Prime Minister's Office.
At this meeting, there was an explanation from the government side and opinions were exchanged.
The Prime Minister said in his opening address,
"Since the establishment of this council in February, we have received a tremendous amount of valuable opinions from everyone. I want to use this opportunity to again express my gratitude to you all.
Today, based on all of your opinions and discussions, the secretariat has created a draft proposal for the National Security Council.
As the situation surrounding Japan grows increasingly severe, the strengthening of the foreign and security frameworks of the Cabinet is an urgent issue. We must make the National Security Council a strongly functioning control tower for foreign and security policies.
From such a perspective, today I very much want to receive the opinions of each Council member on the draft proposal for the National Security Council we have prepared.
