Council for Science and Technology Policy
Tuesday, April 23, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the fourth meeting of the Council for Science and Technology Policy in 2013 (110th in total) at the Prime Minister's Office.
Discussion took place on a follow up to Innovation 25 and other matters.
The Prime Minister said in his closing remarks,
"At the Industrial Competitiveness Council a few days ago, it was instructed that there be consideration of a cross-ministry research and development program. The Council for Science and Technology Policy shall design the system for this program, including its targets and the allocation framework. I want relevant Cabinet members to cooperate with this.
In addition, for the establishment of the science and technology budget strategy, under the leadership of the Council for Science and Technology Policy, I want relevant ministries and agencies to become deeply involved from the planning stage, take responsibility and execute the strategy.
Thirdly, regarding the principal guidelines on our new science and technology innovation policy, the 'Comprehensive Strategy on Science and Technology Innovation,' I hope to compile this strategy by next month.
I would like the particular cooperation of Cabinet members and the expert members of the Council for continued debate toward the compilation of the strategy, including on the strengthening of the 'control tower' function discussed today.
I would like to ask Minister Amari to work so that the content of discussion related to the four areas debated in previous meetings of the Council for Science and Technology Policy contributes to the establishment of a growth strategy."
