The Prime Minister Receives a Courtesy Call from the Participants of the New Economy Summit 2013
Monday, April 15, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from the participants of the New Economy Summit 2013 at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"I am making efforts to revive the Japanese economy.
The political party I belong to is the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. If anything, it is often mistakenly assumed to be a party that is more accustomed to the 'old economy' than to the 'new economy.' My belief, however, is that for Japan to revitalize its economy and achieve dynamic growth on the world stage, the extent to which the new entrepreneurs of the 'new economy' are able to succeed or the extent to which Japan is a country which, for such entrepreneurs, facilitates the activities of their companies is a critical factor.
The Abe Cabinet is resolved to turn Japan into the easiest country for such entrepreneurs to work in.
That, I believe, is the only path there is for Japan to overcome deflation and continue to achieve dynamic growth.
In this context, you have all gathered to hold a conference on this occasion. The conference is very significant, and I have high expectations for it.
Mr. Hiroshi Mikitani is also a member of the Government's Industrial Competitiveness Council and has been tackling a variety of issues, including the approaches that the Government has pursued to date and the regulations in Japan. I would like Mr. Mikitani and people like yourselves to actively express your opinions regarding what Japan is currently doing wrong. I expect that breaking out of these practices will lead to the budding of new seeds.
Today, we are also joined by very prominent figures who have come from the United States. I hope you will have high expectations of Japan and actively invest in Japan."
