The Prime Minister Receives a Courtesy Call from the First JENESYS 2.0 ASEAN Youth Delegation
Monday, April 1, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from the first JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) 2.0 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) youth delegation at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"Good morning, everyone. My name is Shinzo Abe and I am the Prime Minister of Japan. Welcome to the Prime Minister's Office.
The first countries I visited after becoming Prime Minister were the ASEAN member countries. On that occasion, I pledged to launch JENESYS 2.0 to bring to Japan many young people from ASEAN and other Asian nations.
For the first installment of the program, I am extremely pleased to be able to welcome everyone to Japan just as the cherry blossoms are in bloom. In fact, this is my second term as Prime Minister, and it was during the first Abe administration that JENESYS was started. JENESYS was launched with the aim of bringing to Japan many young people from Asia to promote exchanges with young Japanese people. JENESYS 2.0 is the new and improved version. My idea is to create an opportunity for 30,000 young people in Asia to visit Japan, and become familiar with it, and for the youth and other people in Japan to speak with people from other Asian nations, and become familiar with these nations.
Japan will move forward together with the rest of the Asian nations. In this context, young people will get to know each other and jointly pave the way for the future. This is the cornerstone of the Abe administration's Asia policy.
During your visit, I believe you will get to see firsthand Japan's advanced technologies, and in Nara, you will see Japan's beautiful traditions, which date back to ancient times, as well as Japan's history, art, and nature. I hope you will enjoy your stay in Japan. Above all, I would like to conclude my address with the hope that this will serve as an opportunity for you to interact with the people and youth of Japan and make Japanese friends."
