The Prime Minister Receives a Visit from US Ambassador to Japan, Mr. John Victor Roos
Tuesday, February 12, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a visit from Mr. John Victor Roos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Japan, at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"Today, North Korea announced that it implemented a nuclear test.
This goes directly against nuclear non-proliferation, in defiance of deterrence by the international society, and is absolutely unacceptable.
I believe this is not only a challenge to the security of East Asia but to the stability and peace of the world.
We should not tolerate this act by North Korea. I believe that Japan and the U.S. need to cooperate in making a resolution in the United Nations Security Council that includes sanctions.
It is necessary that the international society send out a clear message, and in such context, to show the strength of the Japan-U.S. alliance.
From such perspective, today I received the visit from Ambassador Roos.
I believe that President Obama's recent statement, mentioning that the U.S. remains 'steadfast in our defense commitments to allies in the region,' is very meaningful."
