Reconstruction Promotion Council
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the sixth meeting of the Reconstruction Promotion Council at the Prime Minister's Office.
Discussion took place on the review of the frame of financial resources for reconstruction, fundamental reinforcement of the system to take measures on Fukushima, and the immediate-term efforts to accelerate reconstruction based on instructions from the Prime Minister.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,
"For accelerating the reconstruction, today we decided to review the framework for financial resources for reconstruction and secured financial resources necessary for reconstruction.
When I visited Miyagi and Fukushima, I heard many voices of the disaster-stricken people feeling anxious about whether the budget will be secured. I believe that we have now succeeded in casting aside the anxiety of these people on securing the budget.
On that basis, we will be providing necessary measures in the FY2013 budget, in addition to the FY2012 supplementary budget.
In order to implement these measures in the disaster-stricken areas at the earliest possible date, we would like to take every possible measure for the passage of the budget.
In addition, there was a report from Minister Nemoto on the immediate-term efforts to accelerate reconstruction which I instructed in the previous meeting. Especially regarding the fundamental reinforcement of the local system in Fukushima, a system comprised of two headquarters in Tokyo and Fukushima has now been realized.
Under the new system, I would like to ask for you to securely cooperate for realizing the measures, with the idea that each and every member of the Cabinet is the 'minister for reconstruction' in mind."
