Headquarters for Japan's Economic Revitalization
Friday, January 11, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the second meeting of the Headquarters for Japan's Economic Revitalization at the Prime Minister's Office.
At this meeting, the "Urgent Economic Countermeasures for the Revival of the Japanese Economy" were decided.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,
"Despite a very short period after the inauguration of the administration, with the efforts of each member of the Cabinet, we were able to compile the "Urgent Economic Countermeasures" today, which is the first series of such efforts taken by the new administration for reviving the economy.
I would like Mr. Taro Aso, the Minister of Finance, to continue his efforts in compiling the supplementary budget based on these countermeasures.
I ask each and every member of the Cabinet to promptly put these measures into practice and strive to achieve specific outcomes. At the same time, I would like them all to use every opportunity to work to explain to people the details and ideas of the measures, and their effect on people's living, in an easy-to-understand manner.
I ask Mr. Akira Amari, Minister in charge of Economic Revitalization, to actively diffuse the information in Japan and abroad.
As for the Industrial Competitiveness Council that was established in the previous meeting of the Headquarters, I mentioned that I want to formulate an ambitious growth strategy. Among the issues and measures suggested in the meeting, I would like those that require quick handling to be put into practice promptly, without waiting for the strategy to be compiled.
Although the Industrial Competitiveness Council has yet to start, I would like to present one problem in advance.
In order to revive the Japanese economy, it is indispensable to carry forth both the strengthening of industrial competitiveness and the reinforcement of measures on employment and human resources that support such competitiveness in tandem. Especially, it is an urgent issue to present a secure prescription to the problems of the employment of young people and women.
Therefore, under the coordination of the Minister in charge of Economic Revitalization, I would like to ask the relevant Cabinet members to cooperate in considering a fundamental solution to the issue facing young people and women, while also hearing opinions directly from those who are engaged in the employment of young people and women.
I would like to discuss the issue in the Industrial Competitiveness Council based on such approaches by the Cabinet members, so I would like to ask for your cooperation."
