I am ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan.
I would like to extend my greetings to you all, as we gather for the symposium on Transforming Global Talent: A Proactive Approach.
Last week, on August 29, I held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Modi. We reviewed the past decade of Japan-India cooperation and announced the “Partnership for Security and Prosperity of our Next Generation” as our direction for the next ten years, along with the “Japan-India Joint Statement” and the “Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade.”
People-to-people exchange is one of the key pillars of the Joint Statement. Despite the closeness of Japan-India relations, there is still significant room for growth in the exchange of people between our two countries.
We must enhance our efforts to promote the establishment of a mutually complementary development and flow of talent between Japan and India, addressing challenges and fostering growth for both nations.
Under this vision, we have adopted the Action Plan for Japan-India Human Resource Exchange and Cooperation. In conjunction with Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan, more than 150 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) have been signed between private companies in Japan and India.
The Government of Japan is advancing various initiatives to further expand the acceptance of a wide range of human resources, including highly skilled professionals from India.
We are providing support for young Indian researchers and graduate students coming to Japan under joint research programs between universities, working to nurture engineers with cutting-edge technologies and industrial talent to support the economic growth of both Japan and India.
To advance these initiatives, active engagement from both Japanese and Indian companies and academic institutions is essential.
The establishment of Japanese language schools in India that also provide vocational training is a very meaningful step in promoting the exchange of professionals and experts between our two countries.
I am confident that we all recognize how important the exchange of human resources is to the partnership between Japan and India.
I sincerely hope that the people gathered here today will continue to serve as bridges for talent exchange between our two countries.
Thank you very much.
