Japan-Germany Summit Meeting

On June 26, commencing at 4:36 p.m.(local time; same day, 11:36 p.m. JST), Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who is currently visiting Germany to attend the G7 Elmau Summit, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, for approximately 25 minutes. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, the two leaders welcomed that they hold a meeting again soon after Chancellor Scholz’s visit to Japan in April. They also shared the view that the security of Europe and Indo-Pacific is indivisible and confirmed that they will cooperate closely in dealing with Russia's aggression against Ukraine and in realizing a "free and open Indo-Pacific" in oder to uphold the international order.
- Prime Minister Kishida highly commended the leadership of Chanceller Scholz as the G7 President. The two leaders have exchanged their views on various challenges to be discussed at this G7 Summit, such as climate change and energy issues.
- Regarding the bilateral relations, the two leaders confirmed that they will proceed coordination to hold the Japan-Germany inter-governmental consultations, which was announced during Chacellor Scholz’s visit to Japan and the“2+2”, and that they will further strengthen the bilateral security cooperation.
- The two leaders concurred to continue to hold their meetings and strengthen coordination towards the Japan's G7 Presidency next year.
