CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: According to our Consulate General in New York, it has been confirmed that a Japanese male in his 50s was injured in the accident and received treatment at a hospital. We have received a report that the person’s injuries are not life threatening. The Consulate General has contacted the injured person and is providing the necessary support. Further checks with hospitals and local authorities have not confirmed any further Japanese casualties at the current point. The New York Consulate General is providing information to Japanese residents and also warning them not to go near the site of the accident.
