Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
Q&As
- The situation in Ukraine
REPORTER: I have a question regarding the situation in Ukraine. The European Union (EU) and the U.S. Government announced that they agreed to impose additional, quite significant and wide-ranging sanctions on Russia, saying that Russia failed to change its attitude even after the downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight.
While Japan has already decided to take additional sanction measures, can you please tell us your reaction to the new EU and U.S. measures? Also, can you once again discuss any additional measures that Japan may be considering?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: Japan is currently preparing to implement additional measures announced on the 28th, including the freezing of assets. Based on the situation in Eastern Ukraine, including the downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight, Japan will continue to respond to the situation in an appropriate manner, while giving priority to coordination among the G7.
