Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA: I will provide an overview of the Cabinet Meeting. Approval was made on 11 general matters and other issues, as well as personnel decisions. In terms of comments by ministers, Minister Nakagawa made a statement about the state of children and young people and the state of policy implemented to support the raising of children and young people in FY2011; Minister Komiyama made a statement about the state of the decreasing birthrate and the state of measures to deal with this; Minister Furukawa made a statement about international conferences held jointly with the Science Council of Japan in FY2013; the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications made a statement about the parliamentary secretary to assist the Minister for Privatization of the Postal Services; and the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism made a statement about the senior vice minister and parliamentary secretary to assist the Minister for Ocean Policy as well as personnel to head special companies. I made a statement concerning temporary acting ministers while ministers in charge are on overseas visits.

Other than that, I have one more thing to report about the personnel for parliamentary secretaries. Yesterday former Parliamentary Secretary of Justice Tani became Senior Vice Minister of Justice. House of Councillors member Nobuo Matsuno shall replace him as Parliamentary Secretary of Justice. Former Parliamentary Secretary of Finance and Parliamentary Secretary for Reconstruction Yoshida's position will be taken up by House of Representatives member Seizo Wakaizumi. This was approved in today's Cabinet Meeting. The Prime Minister gave them their Letters of Assignment a moment ago.

All other parliamentary secretaries remained in their positions.
