The mission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure
and Transport is to promote the comprehensive and
systematic utilization, development and preservation
of national land, the consistent improvement of social
capital for these activities and the national transport
policy, and to ensure the sound development of meteorological
activities, as well as the maritime safety and security.
The Ministry was created in January 2001, integrating
four former ministries and agencies, the Hokkaido
Development Agency, the National Land Agency, the
Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Construction,
and the mission imposed on the new organization was
to create the hardware and software basis necessary
in order to realize vigorous lives for independent
individuals, vital economic society necessary to sustain
those lives, day-to-day safety, beautiful and desirable
environment, and communities with diversity.
The Ministry carries out high-quality policies in
a speedy and cost-efficient manner by making the best
use of the merits of integration and is engaged in
promoting development of comprehensive administration
from planning to project implementation, improvement
of integrated traffic system, and development of efficient
social capital.
