The role of the Japan Coast Guard(JCG)
is to monitor the areas off the coasts of Japan for
Suspicious and illegal ships or vessels and to ensure
prompt search and rescue operations in case of accidents
involving capsized, sunken or fired vessels and ships.
JCG employs patrol vessels, craft and aircraft on a
24| hour watch in order to response quickly whenever
an incident or accident occurs, and protects
maritime safety.
Provision of Marine Data and Maritime Traffic Imformation,
such as chartsCand establishment of lighthouses and
aids to navigation facilities are essential to ensure
maritime traffic safety. Furthermore, cruising with
pleasure boats, such as leisure fishing boats and motorboats
has ncreased in recent years, so JCG provides advice
on preventing maritime accidents for mariners though
initiatives such as the Maritime Safety Classes.
Apart from these security and safety measures, JCG is
also in charge of protecting the maritime environment.
