The Cabinet Legislation Bureau is an administrative
agency directly belonging to the Cabinet and provides direct
support to the Cabinet. The work of the Bureau can be broadly
divided into two categories.
The first category of work is called "examination work." The
Bureau examines draft laws and draft treaties to be submitted
to the Diet by the Cabinet, and draft Cabinet orders to be
enacted by the Cabinet, from a number of perspectives, such
as the consistency with the Constitution and other existing
laws and orders; and accuracy in terms of legal documentation.
The second category of work is called "opinion-giving work."
The Bureau gives opinions on legal issues to the Cabinet and
the Prime Minister as well as to individual ministers from
an expert point of view. |
