Japan, now enjoys exchanges with nearly 200 countries
around the world. As a member of the international
community, Japan must constantly continue its diplomatic
efforts in various fields such as politics, economy,
science and technology, and cultural exchange. The
Embassies and Consulates-General established in countries
around the world are at the forefront of diplomacy
and also serve as important basis for information-gathering.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs analyzes various information
obtained through those Overseas Establishments and
plans and implements Japan's foreign policy. The work
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs includes issuing
passports necessary for overseas travel and securing
the safety of Japanese nationals overseas in case
they become involved in accidents or thefts. The Ministry
is also actively tackling the issues such as cooperation
in peace-keeping operations of the United Nations,
