The Self-Defense Forces(SDF) and the U.S. forces in Japan(USFJ)
have cooperatively taken on the duties of defending Japan.
Defense facilities such as training sites, airbases, ports
and harbors are the foundation of their operations to maintain
the peace of our country.
Therefore, it is necessary to smoothly use these facilities
with the understanding and cooperation of the residents
in the surrounding areas.
For this purpose, the Defense Facilities Administration
Agency(DFAA) not only acquires, constructs and maintains
defense facilities, but also carries out measures to ensure
harmony between those facilities and their surrounding communities,
thereby serving as a go-between between the SDF and the
USFJ and the residents in the surrounding areas. It also
manages the USFJ employees and implements measures to facilitate
the stationing of the United States forces in the country.
In addition, the DFAA is working hard toward the steady
implementation of the Final Report of the SACO (Special
Action Committee on Okinawa) in order to reduce the burden
borne by Okinawa Prefecture.
