On October 10, Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, the Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, who was visiting Japan on an official working visit, at the Prime Minister's Office, for approximately 45 minutes from 5:35 pm. An overview of the meeting is as follows:

1. Prime Minister Noda expressed his gratitude for the condolences and sympathy from Zambia in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, congratulated the establishment of democracy in Zambia and Mr. Sata's inauguration as the President of Zambia, and stated that he would like to develop the bilateral relations between Japan and Zambia on the occasion of President Sata's current visit to Japan. Moreover, Prime Minister Noda stated that he would like both countries to discuss methods for Japanese enterprises to expand into Zambia in particular, which has accomplished steady economic growth. In response, President Sata expressed his support of the efforts for enhancing investment and the two leaders shared views on strengthening cooperative relations, particularly in the field of economic cooperation. In addition, Prime Minister Noda stated that he expected that the exchange of notes on the extension of loan aid for the "Kazungula Bridge Project", which had been signed by the foreign ministers of both countries before the summit meeting, would contribute to the improvement of the business environment of Zambia and also stimulate economic growth in the Southern African region.
   
   
2. The two leaders shared views on continuous cooperation for the success of the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) and exchanged opinions on issues such as cooperation in international fora.
